The SketchTime app – I do highly recommend it <g>.

Robbie enjoys using it to make black and white drawings – but now his fun with Mario has gone color!

Just like with writing, reading that happens for a reason is the best sort of reading there is…

Robbie loves old cemeteries, and he loves playgrounds.  So little could be better than finding both in the same place.  Slides, climbing walls, bouncing bridges, and Revolutionary War soldiers – very nice!

Robbie has been really into watching Star Trek Next Generation the past several weeks (thank goodness for Netflix, where the whole series is available for streaming!).

He has been making up Star Trek jokes, making Star Trek ships and games out of Legos, and was thrilled when we found an older Star Trek Wii game (Star Trek Conquest) at GameStop.  We watched Trekkies and Trekkies 2 this weekend, and he has decided he is definitely a Trekker-in-the-making, not a Trekkie .

This morning, while playing Conquest, he was inspired to get out a posterboard and marker, and draw out the galaxy so he can use it later to make up another game.

His interest in Star Trek has led to all sorts of interesting conversations.  The other day, he wondered out loud why, if the Enterprise is supposed to be on a mission of peace and exploration, the ship is armed.  He said that he was pretty sure the only way the Romulans would believe that the Federation wants to make friends, would be if the Enterprise got rid of its torpedoes.

He has also been talking and reading about black holes, wormholes, time travel, lasers, phasers, and how to speak Klingon.  Such fun!

This weekend, we decided to drive up to Cape Neddick, Maine to check out the holiday bazaar and open house at the Center for Wildlife, and Mt Agamenticus State Park which is just down the road from the Center.

At the Center for Wildlife, we saw a hawk, peregrine falcon, possum, and several owls (including the Northern Saw-Whet – by far the most adorable owl we have ever seen!!).

After hanging out with the birds for a while, we drove up Mt Agamenticus and discovered a lovely view – and also a whipping cold wind which sent us back to our car in a hurry.  We’ll be returning to the park in the Spring when it’s warmer and we can do more exploring!

A couple years ago, we got a Klutz set of castle cards for Christmas.  Robbie played with them once or twice and then they were lost in the shuffle of toys and games that are all around.  I came across them last week when I was cleaning up for Thanksgiving, and put them in a basket on the coffee table.  Sure enough, they proved irresistible!

We recently downloaded the SketchTime app for the iPad, and a certain Super Mario Bros. fan knew exactly what he wanted to draw first!  What a fun app – you can draw on your own, or import photos and trace them – and then everything can be saved or emailed.  Very cool!

It’s Mario!!
